Safety in numbers - new employee SOS system
AV Technology’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its employees is being further endorsed by the adoption of a novel mobile phone-based protection and communication system for its field engineers. Provided by MobileSOS (www.mobilesos.co.uk), the service operates across all mobile networks and on all GSM phones. The system is initiated via designated speed dial keys on the mobile phone and as MobileSOS’s Chief Technical Officer Gill Oosthuizen explains: “A single key press sends a voice, text and email message to your five pre-programmed contacts, together with your location.  One key is for a panic call, another sends an ‘I’m ok’ call when you want to check in. Subscribers can also set a timer that will issue an alert if it’s not cancelled.”

AVT’s engineers regularly work alone, sometimes in remote locations, and as their Technical Director Neil Parkinson concludes: “We were looking for a way of providing reassurance to our engineers that came in a practical, cost-effective and robust system. MobileSOS’s use of the mobile phone – which all our employees carry - and the ability to configure the system according to personal preferences were key factors in our decision to go forward with them as our favoured Lone Worker Protection System supplier.”
